Speak Tiki? So Do We
Pot still or column. Molasses or cane juice. High-ester, hogo, dunder pits and muck holes. Overproof and
navy strength. Tropical aging versus continental. Solera versus true age. Additive-free, unfiltered, single
cask, single estate. If those words mean something to you, our shelf was built for you — and if they don't
yet, ask the floor and we'll pour you down the rabbit hole.
Rum FAQ
What is rhum agricole?
Rhum agricole is rum distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice instead of molasses — grassy, vegetal and terroir-driven. The benchmark is AOC Martinique agricole (Rhum J.M, Clement, Neisson), and Primo stocks it alongside Haitian clairin and other cane-juice spirits.
What does additive-free rum mean?
No added sugar, no glycerol, no coloring beyond the barrel. Producers like Foursquare, Hampden Estate, Worthy Park and independent bottlers like Holmes Cay bottle rum the way whiskey drinkers expect — what the cask made, at a true age.
Where can I buy Hampden Estate or Foursquare in Fort Lauderdale?
Primo Liquors stocks Hampden Estate, Foursquare Exceptional Cask releases, Worthy Park, Appleton and the rest of the collector shelf across our six Broward County stores — our collection pages show live inventory.
What is high-ester or "hogo" rum?
Esters are the flavor compounds born in long wild fermentations — Jamaican distilleries like Hampden measure them proudly. High-ester rum is intensely fruity and funky; "hogo" is the tiki community’s word for that beautiful overripe intensity.
What is solera aging?
A cascade of barrels where younger rum continuously marries older stock — the style behind Ron Zacapa and Santa Teresa 1796. The number on a solera bottle is the oldest component, not the average, which is why true-age producers call theirs "true age" instead.
